Abolish The Police


Unrest around the world.
Clashes with police.
There's so much happening and the police are always there, making whatever is happening much worse.
Some people believe cops are necessary.
Because their brother is a cop and my cop brother says oh yeah it's disgusting when protesters are brutalised, I don't like it at all.
If only we could harness that “I was talking to my cop brother” energy.
The raw and intense power of a cop saying self serving things to people who want to think well of him.
What a force for change that could be.
All around the world, cops are whining to their families. What a revolution. I get goosebumps.
People will tell you politicians are a necessary evil, but people also unconditionally love cops.
As if they're a tribe of magical creatures holding back evil with just the purity of their hope.
But we should disband the police. They don't do anything. Abolish the police.
Just yesterday the New South Wales Police Commissioner said he wants young people to be afraid of cops.
Is that any wise person's idea of a world anyone wants to live in? An open air jail? People being domesticated by cops? People being trained to fear their own impulses?
The NSW Police Commissioner isn't your brother the cop who means well, he's the top cop.
There is no reasoning with people in uniform and there's no uniform- not even a top cop who- is any position to question the hierarchy.
Of course cops are not the only institution that has no credibility whatsoever, but cops are the institution we always bang heads with.
Maybe we shouldn't be making demands of anybody in power, maybe we should be dismantling the police so the people in power are no longer in power. Amen

Gough Whitlam died today. The important difference between this event and his dismissal from the Prime Ministership in the Australian 1970's? There was no CIA involvement.
